About Volan: Malaysia's premium handcrafted padel brand
A beautiful obsession
It started with one wall of rackets. It got slightly out of hand.
The wall
Most people who love padel own a racket or two. Roen owns a room.
Every brand, every shape, every weight, hung up like trophies and swapped out constantly. Friends would come over for dinner and leave having tried six rackets in the hallway. He knew exactly how each one played. What he couldn't work out was why they all looked the same.
The factory
So Roen and his British co-founder, a man who can't walk past a wonky picture frame without fixing it, went to see where padel rackets are actually made.
The factory floor was full of names they recognised. The big brands, the ones on the pro tour, the ones on Roen's wall, were all being made right there, by the same people, in the same building.
Our co-founder picked one up, turned it over and asked if it came in any other colour.
The manager thought about it.
“Black,” he said. “Or black with silver.”
That was more or less the moment Volan started.
The idea
If the rackets were coming out of the same factories anyway, why not make one that people would actually want to look at?
So we did. Every Volan is designed in Spain and handmade in the same factories as the big brands, to the same standard. The difference is what you see: colour, texture, and a bit of personality. No chrome stripes. No shouting. Rackets you'd happily hang on the wall, which, in Roen's case, is exactly where they end up.
Where we are now
What started as two people and one factory visit has grown into a brand played across South East Asia and beyond, stocked by partner courts and clubs who liked the rackets as much as we did.
Growing means we can make more, and making more means we've been able to bring our prices down. Premium padel shouldn't need a premium budget, so now it doesn't.
Roen still has the wall. It's just got a lot more colour on it now.
